Claude Code Remote Control: How to Manage AI Tasks from Your Phone

Claude Code Remote Control lets you start AI tasks on your computer and manage them from your phone. A plain-English guide for non-technical professionals.

What is Claude Code Remote Control?

Claude Code Remote Control is a feature from Anthropic that lets you start an AI task on your computer and then monitor, guide, and manage it from your phone, tablet, or any web browser — without being tied to your desk.

Think of it this way. You sit down at your computer, give Claude a complex task — say, researching a market, drafting a report, or reorganising a set of files. Then you walk away. From your phone, you can watch Claude work, answer its questions, approve its decisions, and steer the direction — all while you are in a meeting, on the train, or walking the dog.

Your computer does the heavy lifting. Your phone is the window into what is happening.

Why Should Non-Technical Professionals Care?

This is not a feature for software developers. It is a feature for anyone who delegates complex work to AI and does not want to sit at a desk watching it happen.

Before Remote Control, using Claude Code meant staying in front of your terminal. If Claude needed clarification halfway through a task, you had to be there. If you stepped away, the work paused. Remote Control removes that constraint entirely.

For busy professionals — executives, consultants, lawyers, marketers — this changes the dynamic. You can set AI tasks running and stay productive elsewhere. The AI works while you work.

How Does It Work?

The process is straightforward, even if you are not technical.

Step 1: Start a session on your computer. You open Claude Code on your machine and tell it what you want done — just as you normally would.

Step 2: Activate Remote Control. You run a simple command that generates a QR code on your screen.

Step 3: Connect from your phone. You scan the QR code with the Claude mobile app, or open the session link in any browser. That is it — you are connected.

From that point on, your phone shows the same conversation. You can type instructions, approve actions Claude wants to take, and see results in real time. The actual work still runs on your computer, using your files, your tools, and your data. Nothing moves to the cloud.

What Makes This Different from Just Using Claude on Your Phone?

Good question. Claude's regular mobile app is a conversational AI — you ask questions, it gives answers. It does not have access to your files, your local software, or the ability to take actions on your computer.

Remote Control is fundamentally different. It connects your phone to a full Claude Code session running on your machine. That means Claude has access to everything it would have if you were sitting in front of your computer: your documents, your project files, your connected tools, and the ability to actually do things — not just talk about them.

The phone is a remote control, not a replacement. Your computer is still the engine.

Practical Examples by Profession

A consultant kicks off a competitive analysis before a client meeting. Claude starts researching market data, pulling information from connected sources, and drafting slides. The consultant heads to the meeting, checks progress from their phone in the taxi, and approves the final structure before arriving.

A marketing director asks Claude to audit the team's content calendar, identify gaps, and draft briefs for the next quarter. She starts the task at her desk, then monitors it from her phone while reviewing creative work with her team in another room.

A lawyer sets Claude to work reviewing a batch of contracts for non-standard clauses. He steps into court, checks the summary from his phone during a recess, and flags two contracts that need closer human review.

A finance manager asks Claude to compile monthly reporting data across several spreadsheets and draft an executive summary. She starts it before lunch, reviews the output from her tablet over coffee, and sends the final version to her CFO that afternoon.

In each case, the professional is not waiting at a desk. They are doing other high-value work while Claude handles the structured task.

Security and Privacy

A reasonable concern: if you can access your computer's session from your phone, is your data safe?

Anthropic has designed this with security in mind. Your data never leaves your computer to sit on a cloud server. The connection between your phone and your computer uses encrypted channels — the same level of protection used by banking apps. The credentials that link your phone to your session are short-lived and single-purpose, meaning they expire automatically.

No inbound ports are opened on your machine. Your computer reaches out to Anthropic's servers, and your phone connects to those same servers. They act as a secure relay — nothing is stored in between.

Who Can Use It?

As of February 2026, Remote Control is available as a research preview for Claude Pro and Max subscribers. It is not yet available on Team or Enterprise plans, though broader access is expected.

You will need Claude Code installed on your computer and the Claude mobile app on your phone. The setup takes less than five minutes.

The Bigger Picture

Remote Control reflects a broader shift in how professionals will interact with AI. The old model was: sit at your computer, type a prompt, wait for a response, type another prompt. It was synchronous — you and the AI took turns.

The new model is asynchronous. You give AI a meaningful task, step away, and manage it in the background the same way you would manage a capable team member. You check in, redirect when needed, and review the output when it is ready.

This is what agentic AI looks like in practice — not replacing your judgment, but working alongside it, on your schedule, from wherever you are.

Getting Started

If you already use Claude, upgrading to Claude Pro gives you access to Remote Control. Install Claude Code on your computer, download the Claude app on your phone, and try it with a simple task — have Claude draft a document, organise research, or summarise a set of files.

Start small. The value becomes obvious once you experience the freedom of walking away from your desk while AI keeps working. That first experience — checking your phone and seeing a completed draft waiting for review — is the moment the concept clicks.
